John A. Sahatjian is an 18 year emergency service veteran and a Police, Fire and EMS dispatcher since 2006. He formally served as Chief of South Wall Fire Rescue Company, Fire District # 3 in Wall Township, NJ. He served as Chief of Department from 2012-2018 and in that time developed a Uniform Division and established a Structural Collapse Special Operations Team.
Since 2010 John Sahatjian has been a certified National Level II Fire Instructor and currently an instructor with Middletown Fire Academy and Superior Emergency Training. With both those agencies John teaches an array of topics. Specialty subjects John is certified to teach include CPR, Basic 9-1-1 and Emergency Medical Dispatch.
During Johns tenure as a Communications Officer, within the Township of Ocean and Wall Township Police Department, he excelled as a dispatcher and received multiple commendations. In 2015 he was assigned to Monmouth County Emergency Response Team (MOCERT) and received specialized training in Tactical Dispatching.
In 2015 John created a specialized class entitled Are You Ready, bringing attention to mental health for first responders. Within this class John touches on different aspects of mental health and the effects it may have on responders, their agency and their families. He also discusses the commonly overlooked post-traumatic stress disordered within the emergency services sector.
Currently, John works as a communications Supervisor in Toms River Fire District, NJ. John continues to hold his education to a higher standard to enhance his teaching abilities.
The combination of emergency services, leadership and working in a department within the Criminal Justice sector, John brings an interesting dynamic to the classroom. In recent years John has instructed across the state and published multiple articles in Fire Engineering Magazine. John is passionate about changing the first responder mentality while bringing mental health to the for front in the first responder world.
